Spring into Action

Half the world population is expected to be overweight or obese by 2030. This can lead to an increase in foot problems as well as heart disease and many other health problems. People have been taking fewer steps than before Covid. It has been shown that exercise is the best way to reduce the chances of getting dementia.

We all want to live healthier, happier and more productive lives. These are compelling reasons to start exercising on a regular basis. The simplest, easiest and most cost-effective way to exercise is walking! We all think that we don’t have the time or money to invest. But we can all find at least 5 minutes only 4 times a week to invest in our health.

Foot pain is not normal and should be evaluated by Dr. Robert Rutstein and Dr. Eric Kosofsky before engaging in any physical activity. Schedule an appointment today with Hartford Podiatry Group located in Hartford and Rocky Hill, CT.

Here is the secret to a successful walking (or any exercise program):

Choose a specific time of day, then choose which 3-4 days a week are best for you. Then start with only 5–10 minute sessions. Getting started and being consistent are the most important features. Start slow. Do this for 3 weeks. Then you can very gradually increase by only 5 minutes per session every 2 weeks until you are up to 20-30 minutes. You can vary your pace after 2 months. You will soon look forward to exercising and will start to feel better, breath better and think more clearly among other benefits. If the weather is not cooperating walk inside your home, a mall or in a grocery store. Just keep moving for that initial 5-10 minutes. You’ll be happy you did!
